This is one of those comforting bowls that totally surprised me. When I first made it, I had almost no expectations because the sauce is honestly so simple. But after one bite, it instantly became a staple in our home. Now it’s one of those comfort bowls my boyfriend asks for on repeat, especially on busy weeknights when we want something cozy, savory, and grounding without spending forever in the kitchen.

This Japanese beef bowl, also known as gyudon, is warm rice, tender beef, a sweet and salty sauce, and a jammy egg that ties everything together. It’s simple food that somehow feels like a hug.
